Today we completed a custom Thule base rack installation on a Toyota Tacoma canopy. We installed track on this canopy as our customer wanted the ability to move his bars back and forth to accommodate different loads and accessories. A wider bar spread provides a more stable platform for longer loads such as canoes and kayaks. However, some accessories, like most cargo boxes, cannot mount to bars spread wider than 36 or 43 inches (depending on the box). Packasport cargo boxes need bars set at 30 inches apart. Adding track to your custom base rack is more expensive, but provides you with the ability to make your bar spread work with any accessory for the most stable load.
